THE POLAR EXPRESS Train Ride is coming to Wensleydale Railway this Christmas! Book your tickets today: yorkshiredalesthepolarexpressride.com Join us on a train journey back in time.

● We are operating our Heritage services between Bedale, Leeming Bar and Scruton stations where you will be able to step back in time and enjoy a living museum experience. During March we will be operating a regular

shuttle service between Bedale and Leyburn.

● Travel to Scruton where you can see our multi award-winning recreation of a country station at the turn of the 20th century. Meet the station master and his wife who will share stories of life in the early 1900's whilst showing you around the station building and piggery in the back garden.

● You can also spend some time visiting the 'Thankful Village' of Scruton itself which is a delight, enjoy a wine or two in The Coore Arms, visit the play park or perhaps take one of our suggested walks through farmland and on peaceful roads.

● Travel to Leeming Bar where the ongoing work to the station house can be seen before a full re-opening within the next couple of months. The restoration has been completed and focus in now on furnishing the station house to how it would have looked in the early 1920's.

● The Station Master is ready to show you proudly around his station which features a parcels office, ticket office, ladies waiting room, parlour, kitchen and washroom.

● You can also spend some time in the village itself which features two pubs (The Corner House and The Reubens), a play park, W Braithwaite & Sons Garden Centre and Simply Dutch.

● Experience the classic Yorkshire market town of Bedale on your return with something to enchant everyone from the hungry to the curious.

● Visit the many local attractions on the doorstep.

● Superb walking and cycling country. We have preserved 22 miles of the former line from Northallerton to Garsdale that opened to passengers in full in 1878. Timetabled services currently run over the 5 miles between Bedale and Scruton and we are actively working to restore the full length of the line as part of our historic rail and transport experience. We hope to reopen between Bedale and Redmire in Spring 2022.

RETURN TO REDMIRE UPDATE: We have started further major infrastructure upgrade work on the Leyburn to Wensley section of our line. Specialist rail contractor Lampitt Rail Services is relaying a 660-foot section of track (11 track panels) to the west of Leyburn Station, (immediately west of Bridge 27) using some materials recovered from the former Eggborough power station site.

This is phase 1 of our plans to restore passenger services over the approx. 5-mile section of our railway between Leyburn and Redmire. This phase is expected to take approx. 3-4 months to complete and will see the Leyburn to Wensley section of track brought up to required operational standards.

A considerable amount of sleeper replacement, re-ferruling of chairs and re-ballasting will also be done on this approx. 2.5-mile section of line. Some further drainage improvement work will also be completed, and a user-worked farm level crossing will have its wooden crossing deck replaced with rubber decking panels and the section of track running through it will be relayed with concrete sleepers.

Planning is also underway to complete phase 2 of the project - the approx. 2.5-mile Wensley to Redmire section. More news to follow.

Your continuing support and generosity remain crucial to enable us to restore passenger services between Leyburn and Redmire. Our ability to reopen this stunning scenic section of our railway is dependent on 2 critical factors - money and volunteers. The more we have of each, the quicker we can return to Redmire.

Join us as a volunteer living history interpreter!

Our costumed living history interpreters and station staff bring our rich railway history to life and transport our visitors back to a simpler time.

We are looking for volunteers who relish a bit of dressing up in period costumes to take our visitors on a trip back in time to the early 1900's!

If you enjoy meeting and chatting with people, learning about history and sharing it with others, we would love to hear from you. You don't need prior experience, as full training will be given. All you need is enthusiasm and a willingness to learn.
