🎬 From Cinema to Office Space...

One of the most interesting things about managing historic buildings is uncovering the stories hidden within them.

This week, while preparing Pine House B for marketing, we were reminded that this office wasn't always an office. Back when Ransom Wood operated as a hospital, this space was the hospital cinema and theatre.

The clue? Look closely at the ornate decorative mouldings still visible today. These originally framed the cinema screen, which would have been positioned exactly where the feature wall sits now.

To bring the history to life, we created a visualisation showing how the room may have looked decades ago, complete with doctors and nurses settling down to watch a film after a long shift.

Today, the rows of seats have been replaced with flexible workspace, but the vaulted ceiling, character features and unique atmosphere remain.

It's not every day you get the chance to work in a former cinema.

The rhododendrons around Ransom Wood are currently in bloom, bringing a burst of colour to the woodland landscape 🌸

However, recent studies have shown them to cause several issues. Mature plants literally poison the ground, preventing other things from growing for up to 30,years. So this winter, Emec ecology worked hard to remove much of ours, along with Laurel and Sycamore. Allowing light onto the woodland floor and reducing the impact on our thousands of trees.

To balance this though, our 90 fruit trees we've planted bring colour and fruit to our restaurant.

You will also see the Vipers Bugloss, purple bee feeding towers and oxeye daisies planted by us, now growing naturally.

You may have noticed more birdsong, busy nests and birds gathering food throughout the day as many species raise their young during spring and early summer.
