It is the only major UK airport with spare runway capacity, and last year secured permission to extend its terminal building to support future growth. A few tips to help you get through without delay:
👨‍👩‍👧 Use the eGates if you're eligible – children aged 8–9 who are at least 120cm tall can now use UK eGates too
🛂 Remove your passport from its cover and open it to the photo page if using an eGate

The European Union's (EU) Entry/Exit System (EES) is a new digital border system for UK travellers visiting countries in the Schengen area, introduced in October 2025.

If you're travelling to one of these countries for a short stay using a UK passport, you'll need to provide your biometric details – such as fingerprints and a photo - when you arrive at the border. This is a quick registration process done as part of your normal border checks.

There's nothing you need to do before you travel, and there's no cost to register.

Whether you're travelling with friends for the first time or heading off on a solo backpacking adventure, these simple tips can help you stay safe on your travels:

✅Before you travel, get travel insurance as soon as you book and make sure it covers all your planned activities, check whether you need a visa or other entry documents, and familiarise yourself with local laws and customs.

When you're away...
🛂 Keep your valuables safe, especially your passport.
👭 Stick with friends and let someone know your plans.
🍹 Be aware of the risks of drink spiking and methanol poisoning. While uncommon, both can have serious consequences for travellers.
👀 Keep an eye on your drink at all times and don't accept drinks from strangers. If a drink smells or tastes unusual, don't drink it.
✅ Buy alcohol from licensed venues and be cautious of unlabelled bottles, free shots, or unusually cheap deals claiming to be branded alcohol.

Stansted Express trains will be reduced to a half hourly service all day on Sunday 16th August. An additional half hourly service to Stratford will operate between London Stansted Airport and London Stratford 🚆

Are you travelling through London Stansted Airport soon? Here's what you need to know to 🌞✈️

As you travel through, you'll notice a number of new improvements and ongoing works as part of our Transformation:

👷‍♀️ Hoarding and construction works are ongoing across our terminal building
🛑 New wayfinding is in place in some areas, keep an eye out for new signage
🚧 Temporary routes have been implemented at some stages of the passenger journey. Those travelling with buggies or reduced mobility will be directed via lift in areas where stairs are now required to access Departures
⛔ Our Essence Lounge is only available to those travelling via Satelite 1
