National Register of LGV Instructors - NRI The National Register of LGV Instructors (NRI) is a DVSA endorsed, not-for-profit register that aims to professionalise the HGV / LGV training industry.

Our focus is on setting and improving the standard of Instructors and Assessors by maintaining a register of individuals who, by taking and passing an NRI Instructor or Assessor examination, have shown that they have the necessary skills and knowledge. We believe that excellent Instructors and Assessors with a consistent, high level of knowledge and skill, result in safer and more proficient LGV d

rivers. Our focus is on setting and improving the standard of Instructors and Assessors by maintaining a register of individuals who, by taking and passing an NRI Instructor or Assessor examination, have shown that they have the necessary skills and knowledge to do the job

Three categories of registration are available:

- The Register of LGV Instructors proves that an individual has the necessary skills and knowledge to give instruction to both novice and experienced LGV drivers.
- The Register of LGV Assessors proves that an individual has the necessary skills and knowledge to conduct and report on LGV driver assessments.
- The Register of Driver CPC Instructors proves that an individual has the necessary skills and knowledge to deliver Periodic Training courses in classrooms to LGV and PCV licence holders.

It's fantastic to see (and share) success stories like this from one of our NRI members, at John Lewis Partnership.

Beginning her journey as an Assistant Team Manager at Waitrose & Partners in 2014, Julia Jones became an LGV Driver in 2020, and earnt her NRI Assessor Qualification in 2025. She is now Driver & Operational Compliance Trainer.

Julia recently passed the NRI LGV Instructor examination with flying colours, which she says is her proudest achievement so far. In Julia's words: "It felt like the culmination of everything I had been working toward since I first stepped into the cab of a truck."

What’s next? Julia plans to become an LGV Driving Instructor within the John Lewis Partnership, with the ultimate goal of training to be an LGV Examiner. We wish you the best of luck in your next steps, Julia!

We are pleased to continue working with Hills Driver Training, following their renewal as an NRI exam centre for another year. It’s great to have them on board to carry on playing a role in upholding high LGV Instructor examination standards.

Congratulations are also in order for Hills Driver Training, as they have recently moved to a fantastic new premises at Holmansbridge Farm, in Cooksbridge, East Sussex.

Do you and your learners have access to the latest official DVSA learning materials for LGV drivers? The theory test now includes CPR and defibrillator questions, so it's important to keep your syllabus up to date.

For 2026, Driver & Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) and TSO have launched the latest editions of:
✔️ The Official DVSA Guide to Driving Goods Vehicles
✔️ The Official DVSA Theory Test for Drivers of Large Vehicles

They include updated guidance on the difference between national and international CPC training requirements, and a section on emergency response using defibrillators and first aid.

Be prepared for your online assessment. What will you need?
✅ Your organisation number
✅ A passport-style photo of your assessor
✅ Updated assessor details (if any information has changed)
