Three years ago, we put our first electric vehicle into service. Today, MTRWESTERN operates 22 EVs, has commissioned seven Level 3 chargers, with six more EVs and four additional chargers on the way.

But the vehicles are only part of the story.

Three years of actually charging, dispatching, maintaining and operating electric commercial vehicles has taught us that successful fleet electrification requires four things working together: vehicles, charging infrastructure, operational expertise and access to capital.

It’s also taught us where electric transportation works well today, and where there’s still work to do.

Our latest article from MTRWESTERN president Jeremy Butzlaff shares what we’ve learned from moving beyond early EV deployments and toward a real operating capability, including why most of our fleet growth has occurred in Oregon, how charging is becoming transportation infrastructure, and why early investment can have an impact well beyond a single vehicle.

MTRWESTERN has long been an innovator in electrified transportation...but what truly sets us apart is our ability to understand each client’s complex business objectives, then conceptualize and validate solutions uniquely designed to achieve them.

Recently, we deployed the fully electric Karsan eJest (an entirely new vehicle form factor for a corporate client) delivering an enhanced rider experience, equitable service for passengers with ADA needs, and effective environmental sustainability.

At MTR, this is our way: helping clients turn ambitious objectives into realistically dependable transportation solutions that make a difference.

Meet your driver, Danele! One of our many OUTSTANDING Oregon Point drivers. Way to go Danele!

Meet Danele Welsh! She has been driving for the Oregon POINT for three years and has been a commercial driver since 2005.

Here's what she has to say:

"Even though I do the same route every day there are always new people as riders who interact with me and are just real nice people. Just yesterday, after my work day ended, I met with a former regular commuter who was commuting to her job every Tuesday. About 10 months ago she stopped the commute and took another job in Eugene. We keep in touch and meet about every other month for coffee or a treat of some kind just to keep connected. Some of my regular riders have been a joy, but I am really disappointed when I don't get to see them again."

Her advice for riders is: if you fall asleep, set an alarm so that you are awake for your scheduled stop. "We will get you back to where you should have gotten off, but it will be a delay for you."
