Scotland is basically one giant photography cheat code.

Castles. Crumbling abbeys. Moody graveyards. Highland coos. Dramatic landscapes. Tiny villages that look suspiciously like someone built them specifically for Instagram. Scotland understood the assignment.

SNACK ROULETTE: EPISODE 1

It’s time to officially introduce you to one of our favorite travel traditions: Snack Roulette.

Here’s how it works: Before and during a trip, we collect snacks that are either unique to the area we’re visiting or things we’ve simply never tried before. Everything goes into one bag.

Then, throughout the trip, we blindly reach into the bag, pull out a mystery snack, and we HAVE to try it. No peeking. No swapping. No suddenly deciding you’re “not hungry.”

Then we rate it, because obviously our completely unqualified opinions need to be documented.

For Episode 1, we’re starting close to home with a bag full of snacks that are all local to Washington State!

Snack Roulette is something we do on our trips and adventures together, and it’s become one of those ridiculous little traditions we look forward to every time. So naturally, we decided to bring you along for the chaos.

No professional food critics here. Just two girls blindly pulling snacks out of a bag and judging them accordingly.

Tongues out, propellers ready, adventure mode activated.

For this Tongues Out Tuesday, Tilly is posing in front of one of her favorite ways to travel, a seaplane! Because when you’re a brindled bratwurst with places to go, sometimes four paws just aren’t fast enough.

We’ve officially learned that dog friendly travel doesn’t have to stay on the ground. From road trips and ferries to taking to the skies, Tilly continues to prove that a little dog can have some pretty BIG adventures.

Your dog is already running hotter than you are. Literally.

A dog’s normal body temperature is around 101–102.5°F, which means when summer temperatures start climbing, your pup can overheat faster than you might expect.

And Tilly would like to point out that this is a perfectly legitimate reason to take more snack breaks. For safety. Obviously.

When we’re adventuring in warm weather, we always make sure to:
Pack plenty of water
Bring a portable dog bowl
Take shade and cool-down breaks
Watch those hot sidewalks and trails
Pack snacks. Because Tilly has union-mandated snack requirements.

Summer adventures with your dog are the BEST, but knowing when they need a break is part of being a good adventure buddy.

Pack the water. Pack the snacks. Take the breaks. Keep the adventure going.

When you realize the vacation is over and apparently you have to go back to work if you want to keep funding your travel addiction.

I’M IN A GLASS CASE OF EMOTION.

Because somehow the flights, hotels, rental cars, questionable excursions, and “we’re already here, we might as well…” purchases refuse to pay for themselves.

Rude.

So yes, we’re returning to our regularly scheduled employment. Not because we’ve suddenly developed a passion for responsibility, but because there are more trips to book and our bank accounts have started asking entirely too many questions.

Work. Save. Travel. Come home. Check bank account. Panic. Go back to work. Book another trip anyway.

How often do you think about your travel plans?

The limit does not exist.

Some people have hobbies. We have 47 tabs open comparing flights, hotels, rental cars, dog-friendly destinations, things to do, and whether we can technically squeeze another trip into the PTO calendar.

Are we currently on vacation? Thinking about the next trip.

Did we just get home from vacation? Thinking about the next trip.

Are we supposed to be doing something productive? Definitely thinking about the next trip.

Because half the fun of traveling is planning the adventure… and the other half is pretending we definitely won’t book another trip before this one even happens.

Who else thinks about their next vacation EVERY. SINGLE. DAY?

POV: Your best friend says, “Don’t worry, I planned everything.” 🚩🚩

Except your best friend is an adrenaline junkie… so now you’re standing somewhere questionable, looking over the edge, and reconsidering every decision that led to this friendship.

One of us plans vacations based on beautiful views, cute towns, and relaxing adventures.

The other hears “once-in-a-lifetime experience” and immediately starts looking for the waiver.

And yet… we keep traveling together.

Tag the friend you absolutely DO NOT trust when they say, “I have an idea.”

New blog alert: Edinburgh completely stole our hearts.

Before anyone asks… no, this wasn’t a Tilly trip.

As much as we’d love to take our brindled bratwurst on every adventure, international travel is where our budget draws the line. Flying overseas with a dog can get expensive fast, so for now, international adventures are just Two Girls adventures while Tilly enjoys her own vacation getting spoiled rotten at Grandma’s house. One day we’ll take her across the pond. Until then, Grandma gets the world’s clingiest houseguest.

As for us, we came for the history and castles. We left wondering why we don’t have a bagpiper following us around everywhere.

From wandering the Royal Mile and stopping to watch incredibly talented street performers to exploring ancient abbeys, wandering through historic graveyards (because apparently that’s our brand now), and touring some of Scotland’s most incredible castles, Edinburgh gave us stories we’ll be laughing about for years. We even ended up bonding with complete strangers over an impromptu reenactment of Monty Python and the Holy Grail. If you know, you know.

If our viral graveyard adventures brought you here, just know we were absolutely thriving among centuries of history. Scotland is full of beautiful abbeys, fascinating cemeteries, and enough medieval charm to make us start planning our next trip before this one was even over.

When you visit Doune Castle in Scotland, you have two choices:

1. Admire the incredible medieval history.
2. Immediately start clapping coconuts together and hope someone gets the reference.

We obviously chose option two.

Within minutes we found fellow Monty Python fans, bonded over the world’s most ridiculous horse sound effects, and loudly reenacted Monty Python and the Holy Grail in the middle of the castle. Nothing says “international friendship” quite like shouting, “I fart in your general direction!” with complete strangers.

Turns out, Doune Castle isn’t just a must visit Scottish castle. It’s also the perfect place to discover your people… the ones who appreciate medieval history and absurd comedy.

Planning a Scotland itinerary? Add Doune Castle to your list. Stay for the history, the Outlander filming location, and the Monty Python nostalgia. Just don’t forget your coconuts.
