A new underground Capetrain Express Tyger Valley Station, positioned alongside Tyger Valley Mall, would place one of Cape Townโs most important northern metropolitan nodes directly onto a high-capacity express rail network, offering a dramatic reduction in journey times to key parts of the city.
The station will provide direct connections to both Cape Town International Airport and the new Cape Winelands Airport, giving residents, businesses, visitors and airport passengers an attractive alternative to increasingly congested road corridors. The proposed line will also directly link the northern suburbs to the southern suburbs, enabling new corridors of movement across the city. The Cape Town C*D would be a single transfer away on the proposed network, removing the need of anyone in this region of the city to battle traffic on the N1 traffic ever again.
The situation of an underground station at this locality would provide an optimal response to the regional topography, and would create a major multimodal interchange for the wider northern suburbs through integration with other feeder systems and modes of transport including minibus taxis, e-hailing, walking and cycling connections.
The benefits of this station would extend well beyond just transport. At the envisaged scale it would strengthen Tyger Valley as a major metropolitan business, retail and residential node. The Tyger Valley Station represents what that future could look like: a metropolitan railway gateway linking the northern suburbs directly to the city, its airports and the wider region.
